LOYOLA UNIVERSITY CHICAGO

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

  THE PARENT RAMBLES
Fall 2013

Feature Story

Greetings Loyola Parents and Families!

The Office of Parent Engagement engages parents and families to be a part of the life of Loyola University Chicago.  We collaborate with campus partners to develop and maintain meaningful relationships between families and the University to enhance the student experience and promote and support the mission of Loyola University Chicago.

We are thrilled to have you as part of our community and look forward to including you in this exciting time for your student. We hope our quarterly newsletters provide you with information and resources that are beneficial for your family. We’ll highlight events sponsored by our office, offer links to campus resources, and provide updates from our Parent Leadership Council.  We thank you for being proud Loyola parents and supporters!  Go Ramblers!

Family Weekend 2013

The Division of Student Development hosted this year’s Family Weekend on September 27-29th.  Parents and Families were invited back to campus to join students, faculty and staff in an exciting three-day event.  Families had the opportunity to explore life at Loyola inside the classroom and out. The Office of Parent Engagement was happy to host the first Parent Leadership Council meeting on campus during Family Weekend on Friday, September 27th.  Loyola President and CEO Fr. Michael Garanzini, S.J, joined the Council for breakfast and discussed campus priorities and ways for the Council to be involved.  Goals include committees that focus on the priorities for the Advancement, Admissions and Student Development offices. On Sunday, September 29th, Advancement and Parent Leadership Council Chairs Steve Squinto and Adrienne Block (parents of Adam ’15) hosted a parent brunch attended by over 700 Loyolans in Gentile Arena.

New Family Welcome Receptions

This summer, the Office of Parent Engagement hosted three regional New Family Welcome Receptions, in California, St. Louis and Chicago. These receptions are designed to introduce new parents and families to each other as well as connect them with current Loyola parent ambassadors. It's a great way to bring families together to ask questions, learn about parent involvement opportunities and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with being a part of the Loyola family! We are grateful to the families who hosted and hope to increase our regional presence next summer! Click here to see photos from this year's receptions.

Parent Fund

The Parent Fund offers an opportunity for parents to make targeted annual contributions that directly impact the student experience and enhance our Jesuit identity. Last year, 1,243 parents made contributions that went directly to Student Development initiatives and programs. These programs help maintain our Jesuit identity and include Campus Ministry, The Labre Ministry program, Second Year Experience programming, retreat programs and Community Service and Action programming.
